The Case of the Devil’s Baby of Ravenswood

In Jackson County, West Virginia, near the eastern banks of the Ohio River, lies the quintessential Appalachian city of Ravenswood, population 3,865 (U.S. Census Bureau 2019).  In many ways, this town is comparable with any number of places you will find in the state; it has restaurants, schools, shops, and municipal buildings, as well as various residential areas for houses both big and small. Indeed, very little sets this hamlet apart from any other, including the large and well-kept cemetery that is located near the edge of the town adjacent to a beautiful water feature known as Turkey Run Lake. It is here that our investigation begins, for it is here where the nascent legend of the Devil’s Baby of Ravenswood was born.
